William III: Politics and Culture in international context

On 13 and 14 December 2002 the Research Institute for History and Culture of the University of Utrecht organised a conference, chaired by professor Simon Groenveld, on the King-Stadholder, entitled 'William III: Politics and Culture in international context'. The aim of the conference was to further our understanding of the significance of the King-Stadholder in his international context. This event brought together scholars from England, Scotland, France, Germany, the United States and The Netherlands who have been conducting innovative research on the period or who work in areas, which have received less attention. The conference provided an opportunity for both established scholars and postgraduate students to meet and get familiarised with each other’s work.

The programme had four sections: politics, international affairs, intellectual life and culture in general. The organisation aims to publish a volume of essays based on topics emerging from this conference. More details on publication will follow shortly on this site

An excursion to Castle Middachten was organised.
