FRIDAY 22.8.2003, 16H-18H
PART ONE: PRESENTATION AND FUTURE PROJECTS
We would like to introduce the ASF@NG project within the wider Athena II proposal we submitted to the EU Commission, last 1 March, 2003.
The following issues will be addressed:
ASF within the Athena II framework: some general explanations;
The main structure: different activities to be carried out in the long run, during the three years of the project;
The financial structure: some general explanations concerning the ASF budget and financial funding for students;
The ASF activities: explanation and discussion.
Since the structure of the activities is an rather open one, which can be modified and changed in many different ways, we would like to discuss together the choice of the activities and how to deal with them.
The discussion will be mainly on what we want from the forum, which are our goals and wishes for it, and what kind of issues should be in focus.
PART TWO: DISCUSSION POINTS
Within this more 'technical' part we would like to address issues which go from the very practical ones to the more complex. All of them become immediately very political- for instance they address the questions of representation and access, which we think very important.
Some ideas and discussion points can be the following:
How do we want to manage the student funding we will have within the Athena II project?How shall we distribute this money? Which criteria shall we use in order to distribute it equally? Which criteria we would like to adopt in sharing the grants, in the long-term run(geographic representation, specific needs, active participation)?
How we will be able to reach students/researchers? Till now the main mean of reaching the Athena students has been through the professors directly involved within Athena. Is this satisfactory enough for us? Do we need to think through new ways and channels of communications?
What about the co-ordination of ASF: should we think of ways of choosing the co-ordinators (for the years coming) within the group?
There will be also the issue of choosing a student representative for the AOIFE council. How shall we proceed on that?
Printed material, flyers, etc.
PART THREE: NETWORKING
Last but not least, another very important part of the round table will focus on the networking with other groups of student/researchers, which could be our first and privileged contacts. Co-operation and information exchanges with other active groups will be crucial in the next phase of the ASF project.
In this context "Eurodoc", the network of Phds at European level, will be presented, so that we can start to see if and how we can co-operate with them.
Everybody will be invited to report on projects and /or share ideas and possible strategies to make the networking of the group as lively and open as possible.
