September 1999

  • finalise writing of the final evaluation report for project year 1 for DG XXII, to be submitted by 30 September 1999, by the ATHENA central coordination, with input from all members and in consultancy with the Task Force.
  • ATHENA newsletter by central coordination:
    • publication of the first joint ATHENA publication, with chapters written by each of the thematic panels of experts as well as general chapters on the history of Women's Studies in Europe and the history of ATHENA, and recommendations and guidelines for the broader field of Women's Studies in Europe.
September - November 1999

Wide distribution of the ATHENA publication (2000 copies) through various channels: ATHENA partner institutions; AOIFE (Association of institutions in Feminist Education and Research) member institutions; Women's Information and Documentation Centres in Europe; European, national and regional women's and Women's Studies centres, both within the universities and outside.

  • thematic panels formulate guidelines for pilot studies / case studies and draft workplans for carrying out the pilot studies / case studies, based on the evaluations and surveys undertaken in project year 1
  • preparation of the final overall workplan for year 2 by the ATHENA central coordination, based on the 1998-99 evaluation report and the thematic panel workplans, in consultancy with the Task Force
  • based on the design for the teaching book (panel 1c) and the teaching manual (panel 2b), the first chapters will be written, to be presented during the ATHENA meeting in November
  • evaluation of the ATHENA Gender Course Bank by panel 2b; discussion on the e-mail discussion list with all partners, and implementation of the results of this evaluation
  • preparation of ATHENA meeting in Leeds, UK, November 1999, by the central coordination, Leeds University which is the organising institution for this meeting, the panel coordinators, with input from all panel members, the Task Force, and specifically panels 1b and 1c, who organise and prepare an expert meeting on 'European and interdisciplinary perspectives in Women's Studies teaching books'.

  • ATHENA meeting in Leeds, UK:
    • During the ATHENA meeting in Leeds, an expert meeting on 'European and interdisciplinary perspectives in Women's Studies teaching books' will be organised by ATHENA panels 1b and 1c, with input from ATHENA members - both as users and in some cases as authors of teaching books - and external experts, authors of broadly used teaching books in Women's Studies in Europe
    • During the ATHENA meeting in Leeds, a follow up of the first Advisory Board meeting held in Noordwijk, March 1999, is planned. By this time, new possible external members for the Advisory Board will be identified and invited.
  • ATHENA newsletter by central coordination
  • publication of articles in European scientific journals by each of the five thematic panels
December 1999 - May 2000
  • preparation of the ATHENA meeting in May by the central coordination, Calabria University which is the organising institution for this meeting, the panel coordinators, with input from all panel members, and the Task Force
  • thematic panels carry out pilot studies / case studies
  • thematic panels of experts prepare reports on outcomes of the pilot projects / case studies, to be presented at the ATHENA meeting in Calabria, Italy, in May 2000
  • intensive ongoing discussion within and between the thematic panels on the ATHENA e-mail discussion lists
  • thematic panel coordinators draft thematic panel interim reports, to be used as a base for both the reapplication for a Socrates Thematic Network as well as the for the ATHENA meeting in Calabria, Italy, in May 2000, and circulate these amongst the members of the respective thematic panels
  • members of the thematic panels discuss the reports, via ATHENA discussion lists, and comment
  • final reports finished by the thematic panel coordinators and distributed to all ATHENA partners
  • preparation and writing of the re-application for the Socrates TNP reapplication for project year 3 by the ATHENA central coordination, to be sent in by 1 April, including an interim report on the activities already undertaken
  • preparation for the expert meeting organised by ATHENA panels 1b, 1c and 2a together with coordinators and participants in the European Women's Thesaurus project in January 2000, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
January 2000

Expert meeting ATHENA panels 1b, 1c and 2a together with coordinators and participants in the European Women's Thesaurus project. The aims of this meeting is to discuss content related issues, exchange expertise, exchange and discuss new developments in the field, and to streamline the respective approaches making different kinds of knowledge related to the field of Women's Studies accessible. Besides these issues, one of the activities carried out during this meeting will be the contribution and advise of ATHENA Women's Studies experts on the translation of the current English version of the European Women's Thesaurus into French, Italian and Spanish, so as to make the indexing system accessible to as many as possible institutions and organisations.

March 2000

  • preparation and writing of the Socrates TNP reapplication for project year 3 by the ATHENA central coordination, with input from all partners and in consultancy with the Task Force, to be submitted by 1 April 2000
  • report on expert meeting ATHENA panels 1b, 1c and 2a together with coordinators and participants in the European Women's Thesaurus project will be written by panel coordinators of the three thematic panels involved, including planning for follow up cooperation and recommendations for the implementation of the outcomes of the meeting in the respective final products of the three panels involved; distribution to all ATHENA partners and participants in the European Women's Thesaurus project
May 2000

ATHENA meeting in Calabria, Italy:

  • presentations by each of the thematic panels on results and outcomes of the second project year, based on the thematic panel interim reports
  • presentation of the updated and revised version of the ATHENA 'gender course bank'
  • evaluation of the second project year within the five thematic panels and the two working groups
  • plenary session on the development of the products
  • meeting of the Task Force to evaluate the second project year and to plan for future activities
  • date and modify thematic panel workplans for the next year:
    • during the ATHENA meeting in Calabria, a follow up of the first Advisory Board meeting held in Noordwijk, March 1999, and the second Advisory Board meeting in Leeds, November 1999, is planned. By identifying external members who can be of use for implementing some of the guidelines and needs identified in the framework of ATHENA, we hope eventually to include in the Advisory Board external members from all European countries involved in ATHENA
  • ATHENA newsletter by ATHENA central coordination, including reports of the meeting by panel coordinators
June 2000 - August 2000
  • ATHENA newsletter by central coordination
  • use of the revised ATHENA gender course bank by all ATHENA partners with access to Internet in order to evaluate it
  • writing and distribution of 1998-99 evaluation report of ATHENA activities, including evaluations of the thematic panels and a report of the June ATHENA meeting
  • finalising articles on the findings and results till now by the thematic panel coordinators in cooperation with other members of the thematic panels, to be published in ATHENA's second publication, September 2000; articles will be sent to the ATHENA Central Coordination for editing and will be sent out to printer by August 2000
  • thematic panels finish first complete draft of their final products
  • preparation and writing of the final evaluation report for project year 2 for DG XXII, to be submitted by 30 September 1999, by the ATHENA central coordination, with input from all members and in consultancy with the Task Force.
