Fifth Anglo.fem Conference

Roots/Routes: Writing between Two Cultures

Friday 16 May 2003, Utrecht University

Kromme Nieuwegracht 80, Stijlkamer, room 1.06

Anglo.fem is a network association of women who work as teachers and researchers in the English departments of universities in the Netherlands. Over the past four years, we have met annually for a day of inspiring talks and informal networking. These meetings have been very productive as a forum for discussing new directions in the field of feminist theory and criticism, as well as for exchanging ideas and making connections with the aim of strengthening the position of women in the profession. This year’s Anglo.fem symposium, loosely organised around the theme "Roots/Routes: Writing between Two Cultures" is scheduled for Friday 16 May 2003, in Utrecht.

Our keynote speaker will be Ellen Carol DuBois, Professor of History at the University of California at Los Angeles. Professor DuBois is a prominent scholar in the field of the history of American feminism. She is also interested in multicultural perspectives. She is the author of "Harriet Stanton Blatch and the Winning of Woman Suffrage" (New Haven: Yale University Press, 1997) and co-editor (with Vicki Ruiz) of "Unequal Sisters: A Multicultural Reader in Women's History" (New York: Routledge, 1994). She was the recipient of the 1999 Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship.

The costs for the conference will be € 15 (student rate: € 10), which can be paid on arrival. Please forward this message to any colleagues or students who may be interested in the conference.

We look forward to seeing you. As we need to order lunch and coffee in advance, we would like to hear if you are coming. Could you let us know as well whether you intend to join us for an informal dinner after the conference at restaurant Moby Dick (Kromme Nieuwegracht 16-18)? Please send an email to
